One Mans Trash
I went over to my friend Pat's house yesterday, he is moving and was getting ready to make a dump run. He wanted to give me a shot at taking some of his old boards home before he trashed them. Pat is a knee boarder that sometimes stands up and surfs. Long ago when I was just a grom, Pat gave me my first real surfboard, a 5'6" Skip Frye egg that was headed to dump but still had some life in it. I rode that thing for years until it disapeared never to be found again. The boards I picked up yesterday are not in great shape but there were definitely some nuggets in there. There was a 5'8" Skip Frye Fish and a long board with a double eagle tail (I think that is what he calls it) shaped by Skip. Also a few Larry Mabiles of varying sizes and two knee boards shaped by Paul Kraus who I apprenticed with. It was really fun to go see and hear about all these boards and then load them up and bring them home. Thanks Pat, Jake

Awesome! Lots of history there! Can never have enough old boards(?) :-)
ReplyDeleteJust out of curiosity, what are your plans for the longboard?
ReplyDeleteI want to patch it up and make it sea worthy again, other than that I am not sure. Have any ideas?
ReplyDeleteIf you're interested in letting it go for a fair price, please let me know. Been on the hunt for something the whole family could use on those small summer days. Thanks!
ReplyDeletee. I have a couple Long boards that I could fix up that would be great for your family. Send me an email and we can get something put together for you. Thanks, Jake
