1 Mans Trash Part 2

It didn't take long after I posted the pictures of those Skip Frye boards for Derek from Fotomendo.com to show up with his camera. He grew up seeing those guys in the water so he told me some cool stories while he took these beautiful photos. Derek posted the shots on his website and wrote a little bit about the experience in his classic style. To read what he wrote and see the other pictures that he took click HERE. Jake

One Mans Trash

I went over to my friend Pat's house yesterday, he is moving and was getting ready to make a dump run. He wanted to give me a shot at taking some of his old boards home before he trashed them. Pat is a knee boarder that sometimes stands up and surfs. Long ago when I was just a grom, Pat gave me my first real surfboard, a 5'6" Skip Frye egg that was headed to dump but still had some life in it. I rode that thing for years until it disapeared never to be found again. The boards I picked up yesterday are not in great shape but there were definitely some nuggets in there. There was a 5'8" Skip Frye Fish and a long board with a double eagle tail (I think that is what he calls it) shaped by Skip. Also a few Larry Mabiles of varying sizes and two knee boards shaped by Paul Kraus who I apprenticed with. It was really fun to go see and hear about all these boards and then load them up and bring them home. Thanks Pat, Jake
