Jacob picked up his board this weekend and we took it straight to the beach for a surf. He even let me grab a few waves on it. The wind was blowing pretty hard out of the south so we found a little cove to hide in. The waves weren't great but the board felt good at 6'0" x 20 1/4"x 2 5/8" it paddles great and feels nice and stable. I did a blue resin tint to add to Jacob's art works. The mean looking wolf on the bottom is a print that Jacob made, it should scare away anything in the ocean that might want to feed on it. Five fin boxes for limitless fin combinations. Single concave with spiral vee off the tail to control water flow and enhance maneuverability. On a non surfboard related topic, today is Owen's due date so he could come into the world at any time. We are super excited to meet him and see who God has made. Jake

Paddle Board Mama

Our Friend Julie met us down at the beach this week to take some pictures of our pregnant family. It had just rained and the beach was all puddley and beautiful. We brought a paddle board down and Nikki did some paddling, thanks Julie. Jake

Shaper Portrait TSJ Style

Derek from www.fotomendo.com called me the other day all excited because he was renting a special wide angle lens to shot some architectural pictures. He wanted to come by and take some pictures of me int the shaping bay because the lens was able to get the whole bay. The Surfers Journal just came out with a article about San Diego shapers shot with a similar lens so it was fun to see what we could come up with. 10 ft.r, More Redwood and a Fresh Avocado

I got to work on Steve's new 10' S-Deck BOSS style long board (deck pictures to come soon) with 1/2 inch redwood stringer. I got the stringer from a friend of mine, Matt Yager that I used to help mill wood and work on his property. He has a lot of old growth redwood stock piled and his company is all set up to sell and ship it to those that need some good lumber. Matt asked me to take some pictures of the board and stringer for his website that will be featuring a custom stringer material section. 6' Redwood Deck Simster

This is the board that didn't make it to the art show. It is inspired by the board that Richard Kenvin is designing that he calls the simster. The jet tail is inspired by the work of Daniel Thompson and I made a set of twinzer fins for it. White resin tint bottom, 1/8 inch salvaged old growth redwood deck and hand made salvaged old growth redwood fins. This board is really special and is currently curing, unridden and on display in our house. Low nose rocker, very little tail rocker, single concave entry to vee out the tail 6' x 20" x 3"  with an 18" nose this board should be fast and floaty. Let me know if anyone is interested. Jake

Justin Got his Fish

We finally got Justin's fish down to him in Venice beach. We kept waiting for a time when we could meet up and get a surf together but the time came when we had a ride for the board heading south and we jumped on it. Justin was stoked and couldn't wait to get the board in the water. This one is  6'10" x 22 1/2" x 3". Jake

The Showing of Art North Coast Style

The bookstore was rocking last night with people, music and of course, art. Derek from Fotomendo  (the proud owner of the 10'6" Picker) swung by to see the board and take some pictures. Check out his tale from the night here and be sure to look at everything else that is going on at Fotomendo as well. The board in the pictures is
5'1" x 20 1/4 x 2 1/4 and has salvaged redwood fins. I used a block of resin from the bucket we pour excess resin into and a resin art piece as a display. Leslie (Fatty) has a lot of resin tints into those to pieces, beautiful colors, shes the master. The board with the old growth redwood deck didn't make it to the open because it wasn't quite finished in time. It will be finished in the next day or so and I will get pictures of it and more of  the 5'1'' up soon. Thanks to everyone who stopped by last night. Jake

Art Show Tonight

The Bookstore

A couple of my boards will be featured in an art show opening tonight at The Bookstore and Vinyl Cafe on Franklin st. in downtown Fort Bragg. It is first Friday so if your around swing in and check them out. There are four or five young artists that will be featured and rumor has it someone will be spinning some old records.
